This log home was just finished in the Baraboo, WI area. Everything was pretty straight forward until the crew went on the roof to prep the chimney log surround for stain. They found the that the way the flashing was installed didn't prevent water from damaging the chimney surround and the roof below it. After showing the issues to the owner it was decided to remove the bad logs and leave just the stainless steel chimney protruding through the roof. Once we removed the old structure we found that the roof had water damage around the chimney. We removed the bad sheeting, replaced with new and shingled the new sheeting. Sometimes you never know what you are going to find. This didn't slow up the project as we just sent one of our carpenters over to the job and he finished the same time the strainers did on the rest of the house.
